TIMELINE

Summer on the Cuyahoga offers a flexible hiring schedule to meet the needs of our employers. Job descriptions may be posted through the spring and offers can be extended at any time.

April
  • Offers should be extended by early April, although there will be some exceptions.
  • Welcome packets mailed to all confirmed student participants.
  • Alumni representatives travel to campus to meet with student program participants.
May
  • Employers send individuals who will be supervising the interns to one of two information sessions to finalize details for the summer.
  • Employers contact students to share information about travel to work, dress code, work hours, employment expectations, etc.
  • Students arrive in Cleveland and move into housing at Case Western Reserve on Friday, June 4th, and the first day of work will be Monday, June 7th. Students from the University of Chicago will not be available to begin work until Monday, June 14th. Students may begin work prior to June 7th by arrangement with Summer on the Cuyahoga..
August
  • The closing event for the summer will be held on Thursday, July 29th and the last day of work for the interns will be Friday, July 30th. Any exceptions to concluding work on this date must be approved by the Summer on the Cuyahoga program.
November-December
  • New Employer Information Session held at Squire Sanders law firm.
  • Employers may post job descriptions to the web site at any time.
  • December 14th: Job descriptions should be posted to the web site, although new job descriptions may be posted at any time.
  • December 15th: Web site goes "live" on campuses and students can submit applications.
  • Employers will receive applications via e-mail and are encouraged to contact students within 48 hours of receiving an application. Automated web site features can be used to inform students of their status ("under review", "offer extended" or "declined").
January and February
  • Students continue to apply for positions, employers continue to interview students and may extend offers at any time. All offers should be submitted through the web site by using the "Commitment Letter" link on the Employer tab. Students are asked to respond to offers within 48 hours so that Employers can proceed with the hiring process.
  • Representatives travel to campus to market the program.
March
  • Employers are encouraged to conclude all interviews and extend employment offers. All of the schools will have spring breaks staggered throughout March so it may be difficult to reach students during these days.
